Anxiety & Phobias

life after anxiety & phobias

Dealing with anxiety and phobias can be scary and debilitating as the more you tell yourself to be calm, the more anxious you get. It is a vicious circle! Anxiety can arise from various factors including day to day stresses, professional workload, health and relationship problems or a specific traumatic event.

Anxiety is our body way of telling us that something is either wrong or we need to pay attention to something important to us, and is a normal and part of life. However, feeling anxious all of the time, not being able to switch off or feeling like you are constantly in a state of alertness can cause serious damage to your health. Anxiety has been linked to many diseases including digestive and bowel problems, headaches and chronic pain, depression, trouble sleeping among others.

If you experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, you may have developed an anxiety called post traumatic stress disorder. You may see the word as a dangerous place and trusting people may have become an issue. Living with PTSD can be very difficult, limiting and challenging to explain to people that have never experienced it. Luckily, hypnotherapy can not only help you deal with the memories and emotions around PTSD, but also help you to move forward and find new beliefs and hope.

Some symptoms of anxiety include feeling restless, nervous and tense, heart palpitations, sweating, shaking, nausea, trouble concentrating or sleeping and avoiding certain situations.

Anxiety disorders can include:

  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder
  • Panic Disorder
  • Social Anxiety
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Specific Phobias (agoraphobia, objects, food or animals)
